Ruby-red colour with some depth, paler on rim. The bouquet is soft, even and gently voluminous, building with depth and concentration. The fruit is restrained in expression, with lifted red fruit fragrances revealing elements of dark herbs and a little oak and complex reductive nuance. Medium-full bodied, the palate has weight and presence, with supple tannins and a fulsome structure enveloping densely packed fruit flavours of dark red berry fruit. Violetty florals, oak spices and elements of game unfold adding subtle detail. The acidity is soft, and the mouthfeel is harmonious with balance a feature. The palate flows with good drive to a sustained and long finish. This is a fulsome and harmoniously balanced Pinot Noir with ripe dark fruit and good structure. Match with roasted and slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Hand-picked fruit from vines in the Wairau Valley in southern clay soils, destemmed and given a cold soak, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 35% new French oak.
