Lagavulin 16YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml

Massive, peat-smoke typical of southern Islay, yet with a dry finesse that makes up a classy package. Apparently the teetotal Johnny Depp sometimes orders a dram of this and just sniffs it (it's that good). A worthy classic. Tasting Notes: Nose: Lapsang Souchong and fruity sherry. Palate: The dryness is at first offset by the sweetness of the sherry character. As the palate develops, oily, grassy, and, in particular, salty notes emerge in a long, sustained, aggressive, attack. Finish: A huge, powerful, bear-hug of peat. Comment: The driest of Islay malts, and an established classic.

Oban 14YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml

Fine single malt whisky has been made here for over 200 years, in one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. ObanTM is made using only the finest barley, malted to the distillery's own particular specification. Partly germinated barley is gently dried in a kiln where a light peat smoke gives the malt a distinctive character and taste. The result is the smoky, malty dryness in the flavour and finish of ObanTM. The stills used are among the smallest in Scotland; the cramped nature of the site is attested to by the odd position of the worm tubs, fed by unusually short lyne arms, and nestled in the 'vee' between the roofs of the still house and an adjoining building. Food suggestion: ObanTM is simply lovely with chicken satay or even crystallised ginger. Taste style: Medium. Quite malty and sweet opening, with a medium body and a generous dry finish. A hint of spiciness perhaps, and seashore on the nose. Tasting Notes: bustling seaside resort has grown up around Oban TM distillery in the two centuries since it set up home in a fishing village. The West Highland malt is still produced in the same unhurried, traditional fashion. Strength: 43% ABV Appearance: Olive gold. Nose: Rich sweetness and fruits - oranges, lemons and pears, with sea-salt and peaty smokiness. Body: Full, rich. Palate: Mouth-filling late autumn fruits - dried figs and honey-sweet spices; followed by a smoky malty dryness. Finish: Long, smooth-sweet finish with oak-wood, dryness and a grain of salt.

Glenkinchie 12YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml

A replacement for the soon-to-be discontinued 10 Year Old. The distiller's say this version is 'richer, fuller' and the notes certainly sound like it has an extra creaminess over the 10. Official Tasting Notes Appearance: Bright Gold Nose: Very aromatic and flowery overall, like breathing in a country garden. Noticeable vanilla, cut flowers and beneath these, a clean, toasty note. Becomes increasingly sweet and creamy, with a lightly aromatic edge and fresh citrus, which all brings to mind lemon cheesecake. Water makes it still more creamy and scented. Body: Light, smooth. Palate: A sweet, soft start, like creme anglaise, soon becoming flowery again. A really smooth delivery, especially after adding a drop of water. The mid-palate is crisp and then the flavour settles into a tightly focused bundle of butter-icing, lemon cheesecake and freesias. Finish: Herbal and drying slightly, as if it were pot-pourri.

Jameson Irish Whiskey 700ml

Jameson Irish Whiskey is distilled three times to deliver exceptional smoothness. Triple distillation is what makes us unique to American Whiskeys, which are typically only distilled once, and Scotch whiskies, which are usually distilled twice. This tradition began in 1780 with the Great Master Distiller John Jameson, who worked out that three distillations was best for his Jameson Irish Whiskey. Not just a whiskey from one Single Distillery, Jameson is the world's Number one Irish Whiskey. Jameson Irish Whiskey also has one great taste. Enjoy it as you like - neat, on the rocks or mixed in a long drink or cocktail. Not just a whiskey from one Single Distillery, Jameson is the world's Number one Irish Whiskey.
