Matua Regional Teal Marlborough Chardonnay:
Chardonnay is one of Nikolai's favourite wines as it's a variety that you can really get creative with. Where you grow it and what you do with it in winemaking makes all the difference in the bottle. Giving Chardonnay the cool-climate Marlborough treatment creates quite a drop. We're talking fresh and crisp flavours from white stonefruit to citrus lightly seasoned with oak to finish things off. Perfect!
Matua Valley Single Vineyard Chardonnay 750ml: Chardonnay grown in Hawke's Bay's hot summers and gravelly soils are rich and voluptuous with stonefruit flavours. By choosing the best quality fruit from one vineyard, our Single Vineyard Hawke's Bay Chardonnay has delectable complexity with perfect balance between fruit and acidity.
Notes: Elegant and well structured, the front of the palate is full with soft mouth feel and fine flavours. They are reminiscent of citrus, such as grapefruit, with vanilla undertones from the oak. The finish is clean silky and lingers well. Established in 1851 by the French Marist religious order, Mission Estate Winery is New Zealands oldest winemaker.
Characteristics Colour is pale straw. The aroma shows complex melon, pineapple and citrus notes. Oak aromas are seamless with the bready pineapple aromas completely in harmony. Long maturation on lees has given this very good oak integration and the creamy texture on the palate. In the mouth there is a fine structure with intense linear fruit and a long clean finish, definitely in the mineral spectrum. This is a classy Hawke's Bay Chardonnay that has been finely crafted with great finesse.
Tasting Notes Colour is pale straw. The aromas are complex and sweet showing almond and stone fruit notes with hints of toast and citrus peel. The palate is very full with a fine structure with intense sweet fruit and a long clean finish. The texture is more mineral in style than the gold medal winning 2009 wine. The acidity is a little higher reflecting the cooler summer. The flavours are tending more to the stone fruit than the Citrus spectrum. Like the 2009 wine it has a fine finish and great persistence.
Bold yet elegant, fully-concentrated aroma of citrus fruit with layers of pink grapefruit and sizzling butter, clean and textured showing lifted aromatics and freshness. Full-bodied, with a firm and concentrated core of citrus with brioche, butter and grapefruit is melded with layers of citrus and mouth wateringly attractive acid.
This classic gisborne chardonnay is as big and buttery as their winemakers could get it. Made in the “old school style” this wine expresses gisborne at its very best. This is a rich and interesting drop with fruit driven aromas of apricot and melon with balanced buttery notes and a textural palate showcasing toasty oak characteristics. Delicious.
An incredibly diverse wine which can be matched with seafood, poultry and lighter game dishes. For a match made in heaven, pair with foods where an element of creaminess is included in the dish.
This complex and full bodied wine shows aromas of ripe melon, candied citrus, quince and toffee. The palate has superb depth and length of flavour. Rich mouth-filling fruit is supported by subtle toasty French oak.
This Chardonnay really speaks to the very warm growing season, with tropical melon and pineapple being backed up by a lovely minerality. The palate displays lovely tropical characters, moving into a mid palate with an excellent creamy texture and weight from extended lees contact and barrel ageing. The natural acidity provides a backbone which the fruit flows through. Mt Difficulty Estate Chardonnay will improve for 5-7 years given optimal vintage and cellaring conditions.
